Elite 1984. 2018. Stop-motion video, color, sound, 03:15 min.

Elite 1984 is a 3-minute visual short story based on super 8 movies that my father took in post-revolution Iran. Elite 1984 consists of over 500 single frames, each hand painted and printed and juxtaposed with graphics of “Elite” which was an early computer game released in 1984. I have developed an obsession with the archeology of technology that includes not only Super 8 films but also the barbarism of early computer games. It is only in the hindsight that I found out about a tension between the crude nature of the early primitive shooting computer games and the decadent sensibilities of those home videos, not to mention the printmaking and alternative photography processes that have shaped my work.
